How to celebrate a spooky Halloween!

Halloween is not just ‘spooky’ it’s an exciting time for getting together. You can wear fancy dress, be whoever you want to be, eat sweet treats, and naturally it is the perfect excuse to throw a party. If you’re thinking of hosting a Halloween themed party for friends and family here’s a few tips!

Creepy Décor

Before the food, people will see the decorations, so make sure you start at the entrance by carving out two spooky pumpkins. Around the venue add some fake cobwebs with little plastic spiders and bats, cut-out skeletons, bunting, candles…the list goes on. A good idea is picking out a colour scheme – usual colours are orange, purple, black, green and red. If you want to keep it simple a monochrome palette is also great.

Spine-Tingling Food

This is the star of the event. As well as being tasty, make sure what you create matches the theme. A few creative ideas can be:

  • Creating little ghosts out of vanilla meringues with black icing for eyes.
  • Pumpkin and skeleton decorated biscuits – if it’s a party with kids you can set up a biscuit decorating station to keep them entertained.
  • Create a red-coloured punch (perhaps use cranberry juice or create a sangria) then draw eyes onto ping pong balls and let them float in the punch making it a gory drink! (of course, this can be made non-alcoholic).

Keep it seasonal

If you want to get away without decorating dishes and making creative snacks, ensure all the food is Autumnal to fit with the season.

Appropriate fruit and veg include butternut squash, cabbage, leeks, apples and blackberries, see our full list of seasonal veg for more ideas.
